WELCOME TO THE TOPEKA PC USERS CLUB!

The Topeka PC Users Club (TPCUC), a non-profit organization, was established in 1987 and is still going strong because the membership is comprised of a group of highly dedicated individuals who gather to discuss and expand their knowledge of IBM Computers. Several of the members who started this club are still with us and they alone constitute 20 years of experience we can offer potential members.

Our Club is open to everyone who uses a computer either at home or at work regardless of their level of expertise. Especially welcome are those individuals who have purchased their first computer and find themselves in need of support.  All of us were once beginners and we know how exasperating this time can be for you.  Please feel free to check out what the Topeka PC Users Club has to offer you.

Memberships are for one year from date of joining

  • Family or Individual membership: $24.00

  • Individual Washburn full-time student: $12.00

What Is Happening In Our Next Monthly Meeting?

For the August program, we're going to look at some of the major components of the Open Office suite on the Windows Platform. I think you'll find that Open Office is a powerful set of software tools. There is a tremendous difference in price between Open Office and commercial office suites as Open Office is free, whereas both Perfect Office and Microsoft Office start in the hundreds and go up from there. The software is capable of importing most Microsoft Office documents, and they are working on importing Word Perfect documents. If you are in a work environment that requires one of the expensive suites on a regular basis, you might have to bite the bullet and buy one. For many of the rest of us, it may well be all you need for your office tools. Keep in mind that if you use multiple operating systems, there are versions of OO for Windows, Linux (RPM and DEB), Solaris (X86 and SPARC) and Mac OSX (Intel and PPC).

This is to be an overview, focusing on the word processor (Writer), spread sheet (Calc) and presentation (Impress) components.
